Gayle Hoover's Cancer Treatment

UPDATE OF PURPOSE DEC 3  2021

The passing of Gayle's husband, Michael Morphy, on Dec 3, 2021 nessitates the expansion of this fund raiser to help Gayle cover living expenses due to the sudden loss of half of her family income stream until Gayle can begin receiving her Social Security Survivor benefits.  Gayle still has a return trip to Houston, Tx for her cancer followup. 

Please be aware that further donations will be used at Gayle's discretion to cover general living expenses and cancer related treatment and travel.

ORIGINAL PURPOSE

Gayle was diagnosed with an aggressive form of anal cancer about one month ago (6/2021) in Belize as the result of a parasitic viral infection. Unfortunately, cancer treatment resources in Belize are limited and she has been advised by her local doctor to immediately return to the US for treatment.

Gayle has maintained her Medicare through Ohio, however, the treatment resource she's been advised to utilize is in Texas. As such, she will be considered out of plan and Medicare will cover only about 70% of the cost of treatment. The treatment program she is applying to is the MDAnderson Cancer Center located at the University of Texas, Houston, Texas.

Additional resources are needed to cover:

1) Travel to and from Texas and associated travel expenses for Gayle and her husband while in the US (hotel, food, local transportation, etc.) (estimated cost: $5,000 (Update 8/8/22 to $7,000)

2) Defray as much of the remaining 30% of medical costs associated with diagnosis and treatment as possible. (estimated cost: $50,000).  Gayle, in conjunction with her Belizean doctor, is working with the MDAnderson Center to determine a reasonable cost estimate for treatment.
