We are starting this fundraiser for our mom, Gayatri, who has been fighting colorectal cancer since 2024.

My mom was originally diagnosed with colon cancer in 2024. She underwent major surgery to remove the tumor and then went through months of chemotherapy. For a period of time, we believed we were finally getting ahead of it. Unfortunately, the cancer returned and later spread to her liver.

In July 2026, she underwent another major surgery to remove the cancer from her liver. We hoped that this would give her a real chance to get the disease under control. The surgery itself was major, and her recovery has been extremely difficult.

After surgery, she developed a large fluid collection near the liver that required a drainage tube. She also dealt with a pleural effusion around the lung, atelectasis, and a pulmonary embolism. The drain remained in place for weeks. Even after it was removed, the pain in the area continued to get worse instead of improving.

Over the last several weeks, she has been in and out of the hospital while doctors have tried to manage the pain and postoperative complications.

Unfortunately, the most recent CT scan brought news we were not prepared for.

In just a short period of time, the cancer had progressed again. The scan showed multiple new tumors in her liver, enlargement of existing tumors, cancer involvement in abdominal lymph nodes, and cancer deposits along the lining of her abdomen.

Hearing that after everything she had already gone through was devastating.

My mom has endured surgery after surgery, chemotherapy, hospitalizations, drains, blood clots, pain, and months of uncertainty. Through all of it, she has continued to fight.

We are not ready to stop fighting for her.

Our focus now is finding the best treatment options available to control the cancer and, if possible, achieve a major response. We are exploring options beyond simply repeating the same approach. That includes targeted therapies, immunotherapy if her cancer is eligible, clinical trials, advanced treatments at major cancer centers, additional opinions from colorectal cancer specialists, and other treatments that may become available based on the biology of her cancer.

Because her cancer has progressed quickly, time matters. We want to be able to contact specialists, obtain second and third opinions, travel to cancer centers if necessary, pursue clinical trials, and access treatment without having to decide against something simply because we cannot afford it.

The money raised will help with medical expenses that are not fully covered by insurance, specialist consultations, testing, medications, travel and lodging for treatment, transportation, hospital related expenses, supportive care, and any additional treatment costs that come with pursuing care outside our immediate area.

Some of the treatments or clinical trials we are investigating may require us to travel to another state or potentially even farther if that is where the best option for her is available. We want to keep every reasonable door open.

Right now, she is also dealing with significant pain and complications from her liver surgery. Doctors are continuing to evaluate the remaining fluid collection near the liver and determine what needs to be done to make her more comfortable while oncology works on the next treatment plan.

This has been incredibly difficult for our family to watch.

My mom is someone who has spent her life taking care of the people around her. Now we are trying to do everything we possibly can to take care of her.

We know there are no guarantees with cancer, especially when it has reached this stage. But there are still treatments, clinical trials, and newer therapies that can sometimes control metastatic colorectal cancer for meaningful periods of time. We want to give her the opportunity to pursue every option that makes medical sense.

That is ultimately why I am asking for help.

I do not want the cost of treatment, travel, testing, or access to a specialist to be the reason we have to say no to something that could potentially help my mom.

Every donation will go toward giving her more options and helping our family manage the enormous medical burden that has come with this disease.

If you are able to donate, we are incredibly grateful. If you cannot donate, sharing this fundraiser with other people would help us just as much.

Thank you for reading my mom’s story, for keeping her in your thoughts, and for helping us continue fighting alongside her.

We will continue posting updates as we learn more about her treatment plan and the options available to her.
