Gavin was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest and has loved aviation for as long as I’ve known him. We’ve been friends for over 13 years, and I’ve seen firsthand how dedicated he is to the people around him.
He’s your typical guy in the best way he works hard, loves the Seattle Seahawks, loves cars, and would drop anything to help someone he loves if they needed it. In his free time he enjoys building Legos and, of course, he’s completely obsessed with all things aviation. Model planes, learning how different aircrafts work, shows about planes, books about aviation—anything related and he’s already halfway to being an expert.
Gavin has talked about becoming a pilot for as long as I’ve known him. I genuinely can’t picture him anywhere but the sky someday. He’s the kind of person who will show up hours early to the airport just to watch the planes take off and land. Right now he’s balancing a lot—attending online school part time, working full time, and serving as a leader in his local Civil Air Patrol squadron. Through it all, his dream has never changed: he wants to become a commercial airline pilot.
The biggest obstacle standing between Gavin and that dream is the cost of flight school. Aviation training is incredibly expensive, and the burden of student loans can make it difficult to even begin. With Gavin’s birthday coming up on April 18th, I wanted to do something meaningful to support him and the dream he’s worked so hard for. My hope is that by his birthday we can show him just how many people believe in him and want to see him succeed.
Gavin has also been there for me through one of the most challenging years of my life. The minute my life fell apart, he was ready to come across the country to help me move, be there to support me, and even sit on the phone with me for hours just so I wouldn’t have to feel alone. That’s the kind of person he is.
The ultimate goal would be to help cover the full cost of flight school so Gavin can become a commercial airline pilot, but truly any amount helps move him closer to the cockpit. Gavin has spent years supporting the people around him—now it’s our chance to show him that his community believes in him too.
