Hi, my name is Gavin Volckmann. I am 13 years old. I am a 7th grader at Copperwood Elementary School in Glendale, AZ. I am very involved and active in and outside of school.

 

I was nominated, and I am currently serving as a member of National Junior Honor Society. NJHS is a social club that promotes high academic achievement and leadership in the community. We also do community service outside of school, for instance, this year we have organized several events, a canned food drive, and turkey trot to provide support for our community during the holidays. I also made the school basketball and football teams. Both of these help me with teamwork and leadership. Along with school clubs and sports, I play club soccer for the Inferno Soccer Club.

 

This year, I was nominated to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C. It will be 6 days all on my own without my crazy family! While I am there, I will be learning leadership skills with other kids like me from all over the United States, and I'll have a great experience exploring the sights that D.C. has to offer.

 

I am so excited for this opportunity, but I need your help. I am trying to raise money to help cover travel costs including conference fees, plane ticket, transportation to and from the airport, luggage, and souvenirs.
