UPDATE:
I am absolutely heart broken in sharing that Gator has unfortunately moved on from this world. I find solace in knowing he lived a life full of love, and felt no pain or fear in it as his illness progressed so quickly. We did everything we could and he fought so hard. It doesn’t seem fair, but reality is reality and the bills are still there. Anything helps at this point- even some extra love to a dog you see on the street. Know however much love you’re sending to Gator he’s sending it back 10x from wherever he is now.
Hi guys-
Gator started feeling sick about a week ago- I immediately took him to the vet and he was diagnosed with minor pneumonia. He finished his antibiotics and seemed to have made almost a full recovery. I left on a trip home and he was being watched by my coworker, not exhibiting any signs of coughing or lethargy.
Around 10 hours after his last antibiotic, he started acting strangely and was immediately taken to the ER vet. He was placed on oxygen and kept overnight, totally fine. Around 2 hours after they called to tell us he was improving and could go home that day- they called again to say he had crashed hard.
They’re not sure what happened or why, but he’s being taken to a critical care vet. The total cost of all the vet appointments will likely be upwards of 20,000, which my pet insurance does not fully cover.
If you can help at all it would be so appreciated. Gator means quite literally everything to me and I can’t really imagine a world without him.
UPDATE:
Testing showed that Gator has hemorrhaging in his lungs- we aren’t sure of the underlying cause, hopefully just an respiratory infection which went asymptomatic over a long period of time. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers <3
