On Saturday 19th September 2026, at around 8pm, our brand-new 3G pitch at Gateshead Redheugh was set on fire after children in a neighbouring skatepark sent fireworks over the perimeter fence and onto the pitch.

The damage has left a large section of the pitch unusable and has devastated our club and wider community.

Gateshead Redheugh is a registered charity, founded in 1957, and our facilities are used by hundreds of people every week — of all ages and from different communities.

Our 3G pitch originally opened in 2014. We were told the original carpet would last around 10 years, but because we looked after it so well, we were granted an additional two years before it needed replacing.

After more than 10 years of saving, we finally replaced the pitch in May 2026 at a cost of nearly £150,000.

Just a few months later, we are now facing the devastating consequences of a fire and an unexpected cost to repair the damage.

We are asking our football family, local community, businesses and supporters to help us get our pitch back up and running.
