Help Gary Taylor recover from 2024 & replace his ceiling
Donation protected
Our friend, Gary Taylor, had a financially devastating 2024. So many costly household problems cropped up that it burned through his life savings. These include:
His roof, which was replaced in 2005 following Hurricane Katrina, needed repairs. After paying $2,800 up-front to an independent contractor who had previously done work for him, neighbors, and friends, this contractor disappeared, ripping him off.
Gary found a legit contractor who uncovered additional problems, including mold, that the first contractor had not reported. It cost Gary $14,200 to have his house re-roofed.
In the midst of the roofing problems, there were heavy rains and a bedroom ceiling caved in. It turns out that due to water damage and cracks, Gary’s ENTIRE ceiling needs replacing throughout his house. Gary didn’t get an estimate, as he currently lacks the funds for additional repairs. (A reasonable estimate for his location and square footage is $3600 before taxes.)
A hot water heater problem uncovered a bad vent that had to be replaced, costing $600.
A power surge damaged his central heat and air conditioning, costing $400 to fix.
A plumbing problem, that could not be fixed by DIY methods, cost Gary $1,000.
His washing machine died and cost about $700 to be replaced.
An insect infestation is costing $400 in treatments to correct.
His car is old and in constant need of repairs. He can’t afford to buy a newer car in better condition.
Gary is a 63 year-old widower living on a fixed income and a part-time job as a data processing/file clerk. He can’t work full-time due to medical issues, which include major heart problems and COPD.
Gary is the kind of person who is always there to help others–human and 4-legged. For example, he gives people rides, visits the sick (delivering whatever they need), and has multiple rescue dogs and cats. Some of his rescues have been ferals and/or from abusive situations, and he has taken the time to care for their psychological needs as well as physical and medical, and gradually assimilates them into his pack. He has also volunteered many hours directing and acting in plays. In addition, he worked for non profit groups for 20 years and was deeply involved in Hurricane Katrina recovery.
Gary has been there for others countless times, and now he could use our help to recoup his expenses/savings. We (and Gary who did not ask for a GoFundMe page, but readily agreed to one) greatly appreciate any help you can provide.
