Help Gary Return Home for Rehab

Gary and Gerri joyfully attended their godson’s wedding in South Carolina on June 9. It was a wonderful event and they were honored to be there to support him and his bride. This was a difficult trip to take as Gary has been battling pancreatic cancer for the last year now.

Two days later while enjoying time in North Carolina Gary suffered a spinal stroke. He was unable to walk or use his dominant arm and hand. He is currently stabilized and the paralysis of his right side is decreasing. He is learning to regain his mobility, strength, and praying that nothing else interferes with his progress.

Because rehabilitation is available to him in Charlotte, NC, Medicare and his supplemental insurance will not cover costs to transfer him to be with family or his medical care team in New Hampshire. This is leaving him stranded over 900 miles away from home. Recovery could take a couple months or longer. The expenses to have his care partner, Gerri, stay with him are going to be an additional burden and that impact is unknown. The plan is to have Gary stabilized for a safe flight directly from Charlotte to Manchester and ground transportation to reach a skilled rehab care facility near their home.

◦ If the goal 27,000 is reached extra funds will be put towards his outstanding debt of helicopter transfer flight at onset of symptoms

◦ Their house is not handicap accessible. A ramp and other physical adjustments must be made to accommodate his return to the living space.

◦ Medical professionals within the family have graciously volunteered their skills, services and vacation time Gary feels should be reimbursed for their travel expenses as best he can.
