Justice for Gary Morton after his deadly assault.
Sad update...Gary passed away surrounded by his loving family. May God bless each and every one of you for your generous support.
Help Us Bring Gary Back to His Family
Hi, my name is Kathy Haynes and our family is raising funds for my brother-in-law Gary Morton.
Gary has been fighting for his life in the ICU for almost a month.
On August 2, 2025, Gary was violently assaulted at the Valentine Bar in his hometown of Valentine, TX. Days later, while home alone and in unbearable pain, he managed to call for help—his voice barely audible—before losing consciousness. That call saved his life.
Gary was rushed to the hospital 45 minutes away, where doctors discovered a traumatic brain injury and a dangerous brain bleed. He was immediately transferred to University Medical Center in El Paso, TX, where he underwent emergency brain surgery. Just two days later, he required a second surgery—a decompressive craniotomy—to relieve pressure from his swelling brain.
His Condition Today
After almost a month in ICU, Gary remains sedated and paralyzed, fully dependent on a ventilator. His lungs have suffered multiple setbacks, and his oxygen levels remain unstable. His prognosis is uncertain. Every flicker of progress fills us with hope. But each setback breaks our hearts. He has been fighting pneumonia, MRSA, and is currently in a specialized, high-tech piece of equipment to take the pressure off his lungs. Unfortunately, his brain is still swelling and until the ventilator can be extubated, a comprehensive neurological evaluation cannot be performed.
A Family Holding On
This has been an agonizing journey for Gary’s wife Lisa, his children Julie, Aaron, Kimberly, and Eryana. Gary adores his two precious granddaughters—Madisyn, who loves feeding horses with her Pop-Pop, and baby London, just four months old.
Gary is the kind of man who shows up with tools when your fence blows down, who laughs loud and loves hard, who never seeks harm and always offers help. He’s the heartbeat of our family and a beloved member of his community.
Why We Need Your Help
In addition to overwhelming medical costs, we’re facing legal expenses as we seek justice for what happened to Gary. We’re asking for your help—whether it’s a donation, a share, or a prayer. Every act of kindness lifts us a little higher. Every dollar brings us closer to healing.
If Gary has ever made you laugh, helped you move, or simply brightened your day—please consider a lending a hand. No donation is too small. Help us bring him back to the life he loves and the people who love him.
We’ll continue to post updates on his progress. Your support means more than words can say.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Lisa, Julie, Kimberly, Aaron, Eryana and family.
