Help Gary Moore Walk Again: Rehab Fund

Donation protected
On July 23rd, 2024, Gary and Amber Moore’s lives changed forever. While out shopping on a hot summer morning Gary collapsed due to low blood pressure in front of a store, he hit his head and suffered a brain bleed. Fighting for his life after being intubated twice, coding once, and being in ICU for 33 days Gary continued to fight and was sent to therapy in a rehab facility where he had to relearn to walk, eat, go to the bathroom, and drink again. After spending 97 days in rehab Gary was discharged and returned home to continue his recovery. During this time Amber chose to quit her full time job to be Gary’s full time caregiver and their daughter Haley put her college on hold for a semester and switched to a closer school to be present for her family. After being at home for only 21 days, Gary was rushed back to the emergency room to find out that his heart was failing and that he needed to have emergency bypass heart surgery due to three clogged arteries. After making the determination that Gary would not survive bypass surgery they opted to have stents inserted instead. On December 22nd three stents were put into his Right artery at Mercy Medical Center and then he was sent to UC Davis to have the other two stents put in due to the complexity of those arteries. On December 31st Gary returned home to continue his recovery with new found blood flow to his heart. Unfortunately, after only 12 days at home, Gary’s health just continued to display challenges and he was sent back to the hospital after suffering a seizure. After spending 5 more days in the hospital he was sent home again against their will and only made it one day before he was readmitted again due to a major infection and extreme decline in overall health which is where he is today. Gary is almost to the point where he is ready for a kickstart in physical therapy and maybe finally be able to recover in a positive direction with his newfound blood flow. Unfortunately due to Gary’s fall, he used 97 of his 100 days of skilled nursing from his Medicare benefits and unfortunately, his secondary insurance from his work will not pay until getting a letter from Medicare stating his benefits are exhausted which Medicare won’t provide. With that said, there were no rehab facilities locally that would take the risk of getting paid by insurance so he has been denied by every facility in Shasta, Butte, and Tehama Counties. Mercy wanted to send him to Sacramento but unfortunately due to no family in the area Amber could not remain there daily to advocate for him due to his traumatic brain injury. After all of this, even though his state work policy shows he has skilled nursing available no facility will admit him. Mercy even signed Gary up for Medi-Cal with a share of cost and no one will accept that either. Amber has talked to insurance companies, Medicare, ombudsman, Hicap, insurance licensing boards, attorneys, rehab facilities, case managers, doctors, pastors, and anyone else who could possibly help her get proper rehab for her husband of 34 years. Today they were told that if they can come up with $18,900.00 a local facility in Redding would be willing to admit him for care and the burden would be put on them to collect from his insurance. To date, Gary has been in a hospital setting for 158 days and is very discouraged. Amber is exhausted from her daily trips to the hospital and advocating for Gary so diligently. If you can find it in your hearts to donate anything, your help would be greatly appreciated. This family has been through enough.
