Help Gary (Pic) Mercier Rebuild his Life After his Amputation
Dear Friends, Patrollers, and Kind Strangers,
My name is Jim McDevitt and I’m reaching out to you today to share my friend’s difficult journey and ask for your support.
In late March, Gary faced an unimaginable challenge when he lost his leg due to an infection after a knee replacement went wrong. This life-changing event has left him navigating a new reality, and he needs your help to rebuild his life and regain independence.
The road ahead is long and uncertain, but he is committed to facing this challenge with strength, resiliency, and hope. However, to move forward, he needs financial support that will allow him to access vital treatments, prosthetics, and physical therapy.
As a professional ski patroller for over 30 years at Haystack, Mount Snow, Stratton, and Beaver Creek, Gary has served thousands of skiers and riders in need, sometimes on the worst days of their lives. Now he needs our help to get over this life altering hurdle.
To help him start the next chapter of his life, I’m seeking to raise funds for:
1. Prosthetics – High quality prosthetic legs are necessary for Gary to regain mobility and return to normal day-to-day activities. The costs for these devices are significant and unfortunately, insurance coverage is not sufficient.
2. Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation – After amputation, the physical and emotional recovery process can be overwhelming, but with dedicated therapy, Gary can relearn how to walk and adjust to his new way of life. These sessions are critical for a satisfactory recovery.
3. Home Modifications – Gary needs to make some changes to his living space to accommodate his mobility needs, ensuring he can live independently and safely. Ironically, Gary is a master craftsman and would love to make these modifications himself.
4. Ongoing Medical Costs –Various medical treatments and follow-up appointments will continue for years.
Rebuilding Gary’s life after this amputation is going to take time, patience, and resources. The emotional and physical journey ahead is daunting, but he has never been one to back down from a challenge. Your generosity will make a life-changing difference, and he will be forever grateful for your support.
Please consider donating, and if willing, sharing this page with your network would also mean the world to him. I am deeply thankful to all who have already supported Gary and to those of you who will consider helping.
Because of the many difficulties that Gary now faces, I will personally manage the use of all the donated funds to ensure that each dollar is used for the greatest, maximal benefit toward his recovery.
This is the hardest time of his life, but with your help, I know he can face the future with hope and strength.
Thank you again for being a part of Gary’s journey and for making a difference in his life. Your kindness and support mean everything.
With gratitude,
Jim McDevitt
