Our beloved friend, husband, father, and grandfather, Gary LaTorrey, is facing the fight of his life against liver cancer. Doctors at Strong Memorial Hospital have recommended an FDA-approved treatment that could spare him from needing a liver transplant. Unfortunately, his insurance company has repeatedly delayed approval for any treatment, and these delays are taking a serious toll on his health. Time is critical if Gary is to have a real chance at beating this.

On top of the urgent medical needs, the family is struggling with overwhelming costs: travel back and forth to the hospital, hotel stays, lost wages, and the everyday expenses that don’t stop for cancer. Gary’s wife, Diane, has been tirelessly fighting with insurance companies while also managing his care, her own stress, and the fear of what lies ahead. This burden has weighed heavily on their entire family.

Gary has a 13-year-old grandson who wants nothing more than for his grandfather to live. His daughter Kristina is deeply worried about her dad. His friends and community—nearly half of Binghamton, it seems—are rooting for him.
