UPDATE 10/11
On Monday Kayla was able to finally get discharge from the hospital and even manage to sneak in and surprise Gary down in Galveston! She’s still stuck with a knee immobilization and the ankle boot. Dizziness has improved but is still a huge struggle. Drs say this is from the head injury and the facial fractures but should improve over the next 6 weeks. She’s been at the hospital with Gary as much as she can. It’s good to see those two back together!

Gary has had a rough couple of days but is powering though. He has his first facial reconstruction surgery yesterday which lasted 10 hours long. The kept him sedated and back on the ventilator overnight to help with healing and pain. There is lots of swelling but that will continue to decrease over the next few days. The removed sedation and the vent around 2pm. He’s tolerating well and pain is controlled. Only request is for no visitors for a few days to allow time for rest and healing. Typical Pick though and already flipping people off. Tomorrow he will go back to the OR to have a feeding tube placed in his stomach. This will be a huge help and benefit for him. Tube can come out as soon as the wires come off his jaw in 4-6 weeks. Next surgery he will need will be a few months down the road. That will be to repair the frontal sinuses that were crushed. He will also need surgery to have bottom teeth replaced/fixed. Fingers crossed he will be able to go home some time next week. Kayla says that overall he is doing extremely well considering and she is very proud of him! Please continue to keep them both in your prayers as they travel on this long journey of healing together!!

UPDATE 10/5
Kayla and Gary are both healing a little more each day. They are extremely thankful for all the prayers and support Gary’s surgery was initially postponed from 10/3 to 10/5. The surgeon over his care wanted to ensure that his airway above the trach was stable prior to wiring his jaw shut. Yesterday he underwent a scope by ENT and they would like to run a few more tests. Surgery is now set for 10/10, but could still be postponed. He is still unable to eat and has an OG tube (oral feeding tube) in place. If you know Pick, you know he is going stir crazy from sitting still and is starving!! However, his spirits are high and is hanging in there

Kayla is doing better as well. As of now, possible discharge date on Tuesday. They have her in an ortho boot on the right ankle and a knee immobilizer on the left knee. She has had an increase in problems with her knee so will be having an MRI later today. They also will be looking further to see if her left scapula is indeed fractured. Her pain is slowly improving and is anxious to get out of the hospital to go be with Gary.

ACCIDENT UPDATE FROM KAYLA, 10/3:
As most of you know by now, on 9/23 Gary and I were involved in a major motorcycle accident. While Gary did everything in his power to prevent the impact and to lessen the blow on me, we took a pretty hard hit. It’s been such a long week but things are slowly improving. We are still in the hospital, unfortunately separate ones now. They transferred him beginning of last week. Both of us are doing a little better each day but have such a long road ahead of us. It’s all about the baby steps and small victories right now. We are gonna be down for the count and out of work for quiet a while. My injuries include some road rash, small right ankle fracture, left knee injury, 3 broken ribs on left upper side, pneumothorax, right eye orbit fracture, right sinus fracture, along with a small subarachnoid brain bleed that has resolved itself. While all of that may seem like a lot, my poor man took most of the impact. He has a broken left arm as well as just about every bone in his face is broken. He has already had one surgery and will still need at least two more. First of which will be today. They will go in to repair his jaw. It’s going to be a long day for him but he is ready to get it over with. Although I am missing my love like crazy and wish more than anything that I could be by his side, I trust the care being provided to him. He is by far the toughest man I know and I am so proud of how strong and courageous he has been. I am beyond blessed and incredibly thankful to have him as my soulmate. I love you Gary Pick!I want to take a moment to thank everyone for all of the text, calls and visits. As well as the outpouring of love, prayers and well wishes. We are both completely in awe and are so very thankful for each of you. A huge thank you to those that have been by our side each and every day. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we continue to heal. A little extra prayer for my love as he goes through surgery today.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
