Devastation and disaster is not prejudice to any race, creed, or color. It comes at no specific time or place when it hits. On February 8, 2021 my brother and I were at work when our mother called and frantically stated she heard a loud boom and then began to smell smoke from our family building. When my brother arrived he observed heavy smoke coming out of the blown windows of his second floor apartment. As he attempted to enter the building he was met with intense and heavy smoke leading to the 2nd floor apartment. Knowing his dog was inside, he tried to open up the door when the dark smome overcame him. He tried to crawl on the floor as he called for his dog but the heat and smoke was so unbearable he had to retreat. As I arrived on the scene a myriad of fire trucks were fervently working to keep the fire and smoke under control. My mother got out safely with just the clothes on her back but the dog died in the apartment. All of our belongings were unsalvageable. I thank God that we all are ok but this has caused physical, emotional, mental and most importantly a financial hardship on us. We are a close-knit family and have always helped those in need. I am now putting my pride aside to appeal to family and friends for assistance. Any amount will be humbly appreciated and helpful at this devastating time.
