Help Garry Breithaupt Beat VEXAS: Life-Saving Bone Marrow Transplant Needed

For the last three years, our dear friend Garry Breithaupt faced an exhausting cycle of countless doctor visits, hospital stays, misdiagnoses, and uncertainty. Finally, through genetic testing, it was discovered that Garry has VEXAS, a rare, severe autoinflammatory and blood disorder discovered only in 2020 by the National Institutes of Health.

VEXAS affects 1 in 4,000 men and 1 in 26,000 women over 50 in the United States, but it is often misdiagnosed as its symptoms mimic many established rheumatologic (inflammation) and hematologic (blood) conditions, emphasizing the need for awareness and genetic testing.

The Path to Recovery

Garry's road ahead will be challenging. He faces chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant, and a prolonged hospital stay at NYU, a leader in VEXAS care. His recovery afterward will be long and difficult.
