Help Garrett Kiefer heal after Brain surgery
Donation protected
Hi everyone. My name is DeAnna, and I am starting this fundraiser for my son, Garrett.
Garrett, 22, lives in Rapid City, SD, where he attended the South Dakota School of Mines. He works 2 jobs, bought his first car on his own and is getting ready to take on the world.
He recently has suffered episodes of blackouts and seizures. One episode was while he was driving, which fortunately only ended with a totaled truck, a broken light pole, and a pretty bumped and bruised kid.
My husband and I are on the other side of the state in Aberdeen, so there has been a lot of travel back and forth to push for medical care. Since he is a young adult trying to make it on his own, he has been resistant to getting the care he needs due to financial issues.
Garrett has been recently diagnosed with an intrusive brain tumor approximately a centimeter in size, which will require surgical removal, extened hospital stay and possible rehabilitation time for speech due to the disposal location. Best case scenario.
I have medical insurance for him. However, it still has out-of-pocket amounts, copays, deductibles etc., to be paid. And Garrett still has bills that will need to be paid in his daily life. Neither of his jobs offers sick pay or vacation, so he will be out of work during his surgery and recovery with no income, adding stress to an already bad situation and pushing him to put off what he cant afford to wait for healthwise..
Sadly my husband and I are not in a financial situation where we can bear the burden of all his upcoming expenses; however, as a parent, I am desperate to do what I can to help my child.
I am asking for any help you can offer so that he can focus on getting this brain tumor removed and whatever recovery and rehab he will need. And get back on track with getting his life back without worrying about the day-to-day financial bills like rent, food, transportation etc.
