Help Garrett Join the Star of Alabama Honor Band

My name is Garrett Crowe, and I’m a recent graduate of Winston County High School. For the past eight years, music has been at the heart of my life—I’ve served as principal trumpet for both the marching and concert bands, represented my school at District, State, and University Honor Bands, and even led as Band Captain. This fall, I’ll be joining the Million Dollar Band at the University of Alabama, representing Double Springs, WCHS, and Winston County as I begin my studies in Music Performance.
I’ve been nominated for the inaugural Star of Alabama Honor Band, the first statewide, by-nomination ensemble from Alabama to tour Europe. This is a historic opportunity, and after this year, the tour will only happen every other year—meaning I won’t be eligible again. The trip spans 16 days, with five concerts across six European countries, offering performances and cultural experiences I could only dream of. I was nominated by Dr. Kenneth Ozzello, Director of Bands at UA, which makes this honor even more meaningful.
While the honor is incredible, the cost is not covered or sponsored by the university, and I need help to make this dream a reality. The payment plan covers airfare, hotels, most meals, and all concert arrangements, and I'm personally responsible for additional expenses like passport fees, travel insurance, airport transfers, and some daily meals. Growing up in a small town, I faced unique challenges—like having four different band directors in eight years and learning to adapt to change. Each director supported me in their own way, and I learned to turn setbacks into growth, whether it was bouncing back from a tough audition or learning from a solo performance. This trip is more than just a musical honor; it’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to grow as a musician and person, see the world, and represent my community on an international stage. Any support you can give will help me take this next big step in my music journey.
