I'm setting up this GoFundMe account for my close friend and bandmate, Garrett, who has had to put his entire life on hold in Vancouver to be with his fiancé Shirley in Singapore after she had a stroke and was then diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Doctors have given her less than a year to live because the cancer has spread to her liver, and Garrett is doing everything he can to stay by her side as she faces the biggest battle of her life.

Garrett and Shirley were childhood sweethearts and have found a way back together 5 years ago and were planning to build a life together in Canada. Shirley is a beautiful soul with a young son and so much to live for.

With these recent life changes, Garrett had to give up his job in Canada so he can stay with Shirley as she begins her chemotherapy treatment. He will need money to cover his rent in Vancouver as he is grandfather in a deal and cannot give up his apartment as he would otherwise not be able to move back. His building sadly does not allow subletting. He cannot work in Singapore as he had renounced his citizenship when he became Canadian. He will need money to support himself while in Singapore for food, phone bills, health insurance, plane ticket, etc.

All of this is adding more pressure to an already heartbreaking situation for him while his focus should just be on Shirley.

I’ve known Garrett for over 10 years — he co-founded our band OurGlassZoo with me, and we’ve been through so much together. After a tough run of bad luck and financial setbacks, Garrett had just landed a job he truly loved and was finally getting back on his feet. He is an honest, hardworking person with a heart of gold.
