As many of you are aware, Saint Vincent’s volcano starting erupting Thursday April 8th in the evening. Since then, it has been erupting on and off causing destruction to everything. My husband, Garfield, has his mom, sister, nieces, nephews and cousins there. They have been and will be greatly affected by this. I’m reaching out to all my friends, friends of friends and family for help. It’s scary to not know when this will settle. Could be days, could be weeks. When it does, they will need help to get back on their feet from the devastation this will leave behind.
The funds raised here will help with any structural damage on their home and property, help with their livestock and most importantly food and clean water. There’s no donation too small that won’t help make a difference. What ever you can give will be appreciated immensely. It’s so hard being here in Canada and feeling helpless as we watch this happen to our loved ones. Relief funds have been set up for St. Vincent which is amazing, but my goal here is to raise money that will go directly to Garfield’s family.
The last time this volcano erupted was in 1979 and Garfield lived there and witnessed it. He remembers the destruction it caused, hitting all the way to Barbados. This time it’s worse. They are trying to relocate the people closest to the volcano by cruise ships, but only those who are vaccinated. It’s a scary time as it is living through a global pandemic, an active volcano on top is horrendous. I’ve seen pictures and videos of what’s happening and it truly is unreal.
I want to thank everyone who has reached out to myself and Garfield during this difficult time. He has been in contact with his family daily so far. To think we are all under the same sky and this is happening is unimaginable.
I ask you all to share this Go fund Me page with all your friends and family. The more people this reaches the more we can help them in this time of grave need.
Thank you,
Laurie & Garfield
