Garfield's Last Hope: TECA Surgery for His Ear
Donation protected
The sweet street-cat-turned-house-cat Garfield (currently seeking adoption with Whiskers of Love Rescue) is continuing on his long medical journey to treat his chronically infected left ear. After almost a year of medical care, including a polyp removal surgery, to treat recurring ear infections and pain, the vet has finally recommended a TECA - total ear canal ablation. Once his ear is fully treated, he will be 100% ready for adoption. I'm looking for any help to cover the cost of treatment -- whether you have $20, $200, or $2 to spare!
Thank you so much for considering and supporting Garfield to live pain-free!
For background:
Garfield is a foster I've nurtured over the last year and a half to try to get him ready for adoption. I've taken on all expenses for housing, vet care, food, etc for Garfield before finding a rescue that can support him because he is that great, and I know that he will make the most amazing companion to the right person. I did get pet insurance for him early on, but they denied the ear polyp removal claim and will likely deny the TECA because the ear issue was "pre-existing."
Garfield had untreated ear infections for years when he was living on the street. When I moved into my house in 2022 and Garf became my porch cat, he had this ear issue. He has lived in extreme discomfort and pain for years. My guess is that he was probably kicked out of his home originally because of his ear issue.
The TECA is the last chance he has to recover and avoid living with a chronic ear condition. His hearing in that ear may be impacted, but the vet has reassured me that he will hear fine out of the other ear, and it won't impact his quality of life as badly as having a perpetually swollen, itchy, bloody ear (which is what he has lived with for at least 3+ years).
