Help Garfield (Cat) Beat Cancer

Describe what happened to your pet or animal:

Hi everyone,

I am Garfield (meow meow!).  I am a domestic American shorthair cat.  13 years ago, I was living on the streets of Queens.  I was less than a year old at the time.  One winter night turned out to be what I feel like the best birthday present ever.  While I was sitting on a sidewalk alone meowing for food, my future family noticed me.  As fate would have it, they are cat lovers!  They noticed how skinny and hungry I was.  They gave me some food, and I showed them my gentle manners.  Without hesitation, they picked me up, and brought me home.  We decided to become a family forever.

November 15, 2006.  Best day ever!

They took me to the vet for a thorough check-up, and vaccinations the next day.  They provided me with yummy food and treats, awesome toys, medical care, and TONS of unconditional love.

March 1, 2008 (almost 6 months later).

One of my cat sisters!

I grew up to be a healthy ginger cat--a rather big and handsome one, if I may say.  They chose a fitting name for me for sure.  I am proud of my family.  They take care of all my indoor cat siblings, and the neighborhood cats as well.

I have become a big and healthy cat, meow meow!

The camera adds 10 pounds, right?  (Don't worry, I have slimmed down since)

I do have a little medical problem with my thyroid, but it has been under control with my daily medication.
A few days ago, something terrible happened--I started bleeding from an undetected lump of bad tissue on my thigh.  My family took me to an emergency animal hospital immediately, and the doctor there suggested that we went to AMC in Manhattan.  At AMC hospital, the doctors suspected I have a type of blood cancer, which caused the development of a tumor and they also found two small nodules in my lungs from my xrays.  Apparently, things seem to have gotten worse over the past couple of months because the tumor on my thigh started to bleed.  They were not sure how the cancer came about since I have always been up to date with my annual wellness visits, as well as bloodwork.  The doctors said I may have a couple of months to live if nothing is done.  My family is devastated.

This is the lump of bad tissue on my right thigh.  Right now, I am on antibiotics, and pain medicine because the tumor bleeds when I move around.  Otherwise, I do my cat activities normally.

I appreciate you reading my story so far.  I would love to have the opportunity to be with my family for as long as possible in good health.  Unfortunately, medical care for me is costly.  Just last year, I lost a cat brother, Goldy, to a congenital heart disorder.  He went through 3 strokes, and my family helped to fight it until his last breath.  I am sad to put another financial burden on my family, who is going through tough times already.

Would you be so kind to help us afford it, please?  Any amount, big or small, will help our situation.

Talk about what your pet means to you:
My family offers nothing but the best for me.  I cannot ask for a better family.  Being able to be with them and my cat siblings for a longer time, before crossing the rainbow bridge too early is a precious moment of gratefulness and peace that lasts forever in my heart, theirs, and yours as well.  I want to thank you for reading my story and for your generosity in helping us. I really appreciate it.

Detail what the funds will be used for:
My family can provide a copy of the doctor's note and current medical bills, if you would like to see them.  The contact button is below.

The medical care that we are seeking to do consists of:
$200 - $500 per month for chemotherapy.
$500 for echocardiogram.
$600 for abdominal ultrasound
$2600 to do a CT scan, so the doctor can tell where the bad tissues are in my body.
$4000 for surgery to remove the bad tissues.

Explain how soon you need the funds:
I have such a high spirit to live, and would love to start treatment soon, so I can have a chance to spend so much more time with my family.
