Help Ganesh Return to His Studies

My name is Sister Gina Fleming and I am a Dominican Sister from Amityville, NY. I would like to introduce you to Ganesh Okudo. Ganesh volunteered at our Motherhouse in Amityville at Homecoming Farm for a period of 2 months. While volunteering he lived with us at the House of Hospitality in Huntington Station.

Ganesh is a Biology major at Caldwell University and came to the United States on a student visa from Ghana. The soil in Ghana is depleted and the weather is so extremely hot that growing food is very difficult. Ganesh yearned to learn as much as he could about organic farming so that once returning to his country he could share his newly acquired knowledge with his village in order to better their lives.

Ganesh was taking a leave from his studies at Caldwell due to financial difficulties. While leaving his home to go to work he was picked up by ICE and detained. Unfortunately, Ganesh had let his student visa expire during the year away from Caldwell.

Ganesh has been transferred from his original place of detention since is currently at the Delaney Center in New Jersey, the same center that was in the news recently for the detaining of the Mayor of Newark.

As a religious community we have written letters of recommendation for Ganesh speaking to his time with us and his character in hope that it will help his situation. This is a young man who ate lunch in our dining room each day of his internship and developed relationships with many of our sisters. This is not a CRIMINAL!

We have started this Go Fund Me page in an effort to help pay for the legal assistance he will need to fight this detention.
