My name is Ana and I am trying to raise money for my husband's treatment in the US.
In August 2020 a few weeks before our marriage, life changed completely for us. My husband Ganesh (33 years old) woke up on the 26th of August at 3.00 am and realised that he couldn't move his eye lid or the left side of his face. We rushed into A&E to find out he has Bell's Palsy but a few days later he was diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. Ramsay Hunt Syndrome occurs when a shingles outbreak affects the facial nerve near one of the ears. In addition to the painful shingles rash, Ramsay Hunt Syndrome causes facial paralysis and hearing loss in the affected ear.

In addition to the painful shingles rash, Ramsay Hunt Syndrome causes facial paralysis and hearing loss in the affected ear.
At the moment because of the paralysis he has to patch his eye and use lots of moisture every day so it doesn’t dry. His cornea is affected and he has the risk to slowly loose eyesight in the left eye if not treated.
He never had health issues until then and we have been advised that taking the correct treatment (Prednisolone and Acyclovir) he will recover in a few days or worst case scenario in a few weeks. So we didn't stress too much about it and we waited patiently. To our shock here we are one year and a half later and he is still the same and has not recovered much. We later found out that the treatment we need is not available through NHS so we started looking around for options that could help him recover.
Sadly because this syndrome affects a very low percentage of people worldwide and most of them recover relatively quickly, there is no much research done and there are very few medics in the world that can perform a successful facial and eyelid reanimation surgery.
After much research we've found the Facial Paralysis Institute in the US that can help Ganesh recover up to 80%. The results are fantastic and most of the patients look very normal a few months after the surgery is performed. The treatment has a price of $70,000 which is out of our budget at the moment.
We do appreciate everyone's generosity that could help us get to the US this Summer for the treatment and we will be forever grateful.
