Hi, I’m Anna — and this is Gamja, my 7-year-old Boston Terrier.

Gamja began coughing last December. I took him to three different vets in Los Angeles, but the antibiotics didn’t help. His symptoms kept returning — persistent coughing, limping, fatigue, and eventually, high fevers and difficulty breathing.

While visiting a friend near San Francisco, I rushed him to an emergency vet. The initial diagnosis was alarming — they suspected bone cancer.

I brought him to UC Davis for further testing. After several days, we finally got an answer: Valley Fever — a rare but treatable fungal infection that affects the lungs, bones, and joints.

Gamja has now been in the hospital for 10 days, receiving antifungal medication, supportive care, and nutrition through a feeding tube. He’s still very weak and needs time, treatment, and continued care to recover fully.
