Galen Frost Bernard, my son, born and raised in Nelson County, VA, single father of Coltrane (10-turning 11 on the 9th) and Remy (7), lifelong artist, painter in the River Arts District for 22 years, is in the midst of dealing with the catastrophic impact of Hurricane Helene on his home and community in Swannanoa, and the devastating impact on his studio and artist community in the River Arts District of Asheville, North Carolina. Galen was able to salvage a few paintings from the studio, but almost everything is gone.

The tremendous losses, damage, and suffering of this thousand-year flood are heartbreaking, so hard to grasp or imagine.
