My name is Gale, and I live in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 1997, a motorcycle accident left me paralyzed from the chest down, with severe muscle spasms and limited mobility. Despite these challenges, I’ve worked hard to stay independent — I drive, work, and live on my own. My community has been a lifeline, with friends, neighbors, and even the local fire department stepping in when I’ve needed help after a fall. Still, I want to rely less on others and regain more control over my life.

During outpatient therapy, I was introduced to a Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) bike. This device uses gentle electrical currents to activate my leg muscles, allowing me to pedal and get a real cardiovascular workout. The difference was immediate: my spasms eased, my strength improved, and daily tasks became less painful. For the first time in years, I felt like my body was working with me, not against me. Unfortunately, my insurance considers the FES bike “experimental” and won’t cover the cost, making it impossible for me to purchase on my own.

This fundraiser is my chance to bring the FES bike home. With your support, I can continue working, living independently, and staying safe in my own home.
