Two years ago, my world changed when my daughter, who has a rare chromosome disorder, was taken by DHS for medical neglect and placed in the JD McCarty Center in Norman, OK. Thankfully, the medical neglect charge was dropped and it was recognized that our real challenge was a lack of resources and knowledge. I was placed in a program called Youth Villages, where a specialist helped me learn about the resources available and how to apply for them. With their support, I was able to advocate for myself and my daughter, and after a long journey, I won the court case. My daughter is finally coming home within the next two weeks, and I am so grateful for this new beginning.

Before I had access to the right resources and knowledge, I accumulated enormous debt from medical bills, EMT rides, and personal loans just to make it through each week. Because the court case was open, I wasn’t able to apply for certain resources and benefits through Oklahoma. Now, due to how medically fragile my daughter is, I have to quit my job and become a full-time rideshare and food delivery driver. This is the only way I can have a flexible schedule to be there for her medical needs. The transition is happening soon, and any support or donations would make a big difference for us as we adjust to this new chapter. Your help will go toward medical bills, equipment, rent, utilities, car payments, insurance, and groceries—essentials that will help us get through this time until we’re approved for more services.
