Hello, my name is Gabriela Alvarez
I never imagined I'd be in a position where I’d have to ask for help like this. On July 25th, my life was turned upside down when a water heater in the apartment above mine ruptured and completely flooded my home, with the water buildup above coming through the drywall and also causing the ceiling to collapse throughout the entire apartment. In a matter of hours, everything I owned was destroyed—my furniture, clothes, legal documents, and most devastatingly, the mementos and personal belongings that held sentimental value.
The apartment complex deemed my unit uninhabitable and offered no assistance in helping me relocate. I watched helplessly as the complex demolished my apartment less than 12 hours later, bagging and damaging the rest of my possessions—without giving me a fair chance to salvage what little may have remained.
To make matters worse, I just got accepted into nursing school and had orientation that same morning. All of my school supplies, documents, and materials were damaged or completely destroyed. With school starting in less than a month, I’m overwhelmed, trying to stay on track while dealing with the loss of and lack of a home, trauma from the experience for myself and my cats who were trapped in the apartment during the collapse and flood, and the financial burden of this sudden loss. I’m also pursuing legal action to hold the responsible parties accountable, which comes with its own set of expenses.
I’m humbly asking for help to cover the cost of:
-Securing a new apartment and basic furnishings
-Replacing my nursing school supplies
-Legal fees and damages related to this incident
Every donation, no matter the amount, would mean the world to me. If you’re not in a position to give, simply sharing this would be a tremendous help. Thank you for taking the time to read my story; and for your kindness and support during this challenging time.
With love and gratitude,
Gabriela Alvarez
