Help Gabriel Recover and Reunite With His Family

Husband and father of four, Gabriel Johnson, was denied his medication for weeks while in ICE custody and suffered a devastating stroke. He was rushed to a Texas hospital after being told the detention center wasn't equipped to treat him.

After advocating for hours, we were finally granted one hour to visit him. Nothing could have prepared us for seeing one side of his body has been severely paralyzed, and his ability to speak has been significantly impacted. His mobile foot was cuffed to the bed while he struggled to communicate. This is one of the most heartbreaking moments our family has experienced.

If you remember what it felt like during COVID to be kept from a hospitalized loved one, that's what our family has been living through again.

But the stroke did not take away who he is. He recognized us. He remembered each of us. His kindness, his faith, and his love for our family were still there. We held his hand, prayed together, and treasured every minute.

Who Gabriel is:

ICE cannot put him on a plane to deport him. He needs to come home to recover. We love this country and its values, and our request is simple: he needs medical care, rehabilitation, and his family. We are asking for his release from ICE custody so he can recover with his wife and children while his legal proceedings continue. Since his hospitalization, our family has been working around the clock to fight for his release. We've already spent thousands of dollars, and though we've returned home to North Carolina, Gabriel remains hospitalized in Texas, with expenses continuing to grow while we're kept in the dark about his condition.
