Help Black Trans Femme Gabi Thrive After Setbacks!

Hello all,
I am writing to you today to ask you to support my friend Gabi. Gabi is a dear friend who shows up for her community and fam. A fiery Leo rising femme babe with cute fashion and jokes for days, she shines bright on the dance floor and brings joy to any space she graces with her generous smile. She is a skilled body service provider specializing in wigs, hair care, and lash extensions; an organizer with SWOP Minneapolis; and a cherished community member who sticks up for the underdog and doesn’t play into fake bullshit. Last summer as the racial justice uprising grew in Minneapolis out of opposition to police brutality and the murder of Black people, Gabi was out on the front lines, taking care of community members, protesting, and providing mutual aid. She is full of life and passion and dreams, and she deserves to be supported in all of her aspirations.
Gabi has had one hell of a year. She was in an accident at a residential pool and broke her neck in three places. She was in a car accident and exacerbated her neck injuries, requiring her to stay in the hospital for some time. Her apartment building caught fire while she was not there, and many of her belongings were ruined or flooded from the sprinklers. She was never able to receive any unemployment assistance during the pandemic because when she applied, she found out her identity had been stolen, and an investigation process is still underway. She was recently in a second car accident, and is now requiring funds for legal help. She currently has a rental car to be able to get to work and her appointments, however she is only getting 4-6 hours per week at her job, keeping her in financial distress as she’s hardly breaking even. She is struggling to pay for her hormones, and losing access to this will place even further strain on her mental health and safety.
The pandemic has been so hard on many of our beloveds, and it’s no surprise that the people it is hitting the hardest are those who have already been experiencing multiple overlapping oppressions. As a young, Black, transgender woman, Gabi has to walk through much systemic harm in her day-to-day life, and rarely gets a moments peace before another obstacle piles on. Access to housing, to job security, to safety, to financial comfortability, are all things that she never gets to take for granted. I’m asking for your financial support for Gabi because she deserves all of these things, and she deserves so much more. Remember that not one of us will ever be free without the safety, liberation, and care of Black trans femmes.
The goal is $20,000. This will be used to help pay for medical expenses, legal fees, housing and food expenses during Covid, and a ~CAR~. She needs a good, reliable vehicle that won’t break down on the side of the road, causing her more stress! Please help support Gabi in her right to not only survive, but to THRIVE!
