My name is Mary Ann Burgess and I’m setting up this fundraiser on behalf of my mom and my brother’s family who have been through some unimaginable hardship recently.

My brother, Gabe Silva, was riding his bicycle on an evening in late September when he was struck by a motor vehicle. The vehicle did not stop and left him severely injured on the side of the road. He was admitted to the intensive care unit with a brain bleed, traumatic brain injury, and several other serious injuries. He needed multiple surgeries to correct a brain shift and relieve pressure from his brain. He has not been conscious for more than a few minutes at a time and is unable to keep his eyes open or speak. Doctors expect him to be in the hospital for quite some time and we have no expected timeline for his recovery due to the extent of his injuries.

Gabe lost his fiancé and mother of his two boys in a tragic accident in 2022.

My mom, Stephanie, has stepped in to help so much in the past few years. She is a full-time nurse and previously provided in-home care for individuals with traumatic brain injuries. She cares very deeply for others and loves her family more than anything.

She is currently caring for Gabe’s two sons and has taken time off work to be with my brother in the hospital.

If we could help relieve some of the financial burden from my mother, I know she would be so eternally grateful. I’d like to raise money to help her with utilities, meals during this time, and any needs for my brother’s two children.
