Help Gabes Breathe Better

Donation protected
Ryan Ho is Gabes’ partner and is listed as the beneficiary because of international bank issues.

URGENT- Help us raise $9,000 for Gabes Torres to undergo surgery for a medical condition that causes her persistent difficulty with breathing. This procedure is required to restore Gabes’ day-to-day functioning, and makes it possible for Gabes to continue making an impact in human rights and community care spaces.

  • Gabes offers psychosocial support to advocacy groups such as Climate Activist Defenders, 350.org, and more, helping sustain long-term commitments to crisis response, disaster relief, and the defense of human rights.
  • Gabes works daily with clients from marginalized communities who face systemic barriers in accessing mental health care that is trauma-informed, culturally attuned, and rooted in accessibility and hospitality.
  • Gabes designs care models and facilitates retreats and workshops that deepen collective practices of care. She has shared her work through talks and teachings in community-led spaces such as advaya, Collective Wellness Retreat, Team CommUNITY (TCU), AAPI Women Lead, and more.

More details below:

Gabes has struggled with breathing issues since childhood, but only recently was diagnosed with a deviated nasal septum and compromised nasal valves. Without surgery, Gabes’ ability to breathe through her nose will continue to deteriorate and puts her at risk for additional complications.

Your support makes this procedure possible–and helps Gabes to continue showing up for the people she serves. Specifically, $9,000 covers the following costs:
  • $800 - pre-surgical labs and evaluations
  • $7,700 - the surgical procedure itself
  • $500 - post-operative medication and care

If you’d like to give directly to Gabes, avoiding credit card processing fees, you can also give through Venmo @Gabestorres and your total can be added to this fundraiser. If you are in Thailand and would like to donate, please contact me (Marissa).
