Help Gabe Beat Bone Cancer
Donation protected
Gabe is 14 years old and battling bone cancer. Gabe lives in the heavily locked-down Philippines and is my nephew. The Philippines is a wonderful country, but medical care is expensive and health insurance doesn't pay for such treatments like it does in the USA. Medical providers in the Philippines often require to be paid in cash and to show proof of the ability to pay before agreeing to treat a patient. My nephew Gabe and my cousins live modestly. Last month, August 2021, Gabe had simple knee pains and his parents, Nikki and Plex, thought it was just a sprained knee. After a consult with the doctors and x-rays in September 2021, the doctors gave the horrible news that Gabe is suffering from high-grade bone cancer (high-grade osteosarcoma) - high grade, means that the cancer will probably grow and spread quickly if not treated. In the Philippines, treating cancer is very expensive and there is no universal health insurance and most can not afford any heath insurance at all. Nikki and Plex, parents of my nephew Gabe are heart shook and broken as they are fighting to keep Gabe's bone cancer from spreading so that Gabe may grow up to lead the life that he dreams of. Treatment will mean many expenses for his surgery, MRI's, bone scans, biopsies, CT scans, and his chemotherapy for 10 weeks.
Gabe's surgery to remove the tumor is around P700,000 Philippine Pesos ($14,000 USD) and his Chemo therapy and rounds of medicines will be around P1.8million Philippine Pesos ($36,000 USD), plus the ongoing therapies he will need, such as radiation and more diagnostics in contingent scenarios.
For Gabe, his bone cancer calls for chemotherapy as the first treatment for his type of bone cancer. If the tumor shrinks enough to become resectable, it is then removed with surgery. This is followed by more chemotherapy for up to a year. If Gabe's tumor still can't be removed completely after chemotherapy, radiation therapy can be used to try to keep the tumor under control and to help relieve symptoms while he continues to grow. More chemotherapy may be prescribed, either instead of or after radiation therapy. If the first chemo regimen didn’t work very well, a alternate regimen chemo drugs might be tried. Here, Nikki and Plex need help. We do not know how much more therapy Gabe needs, but finances are just so hard to come by in the locked down Philippines.
Gabe is a good older brother and to his family. Gabe is a kindhearted and free-spirited kid. Gabe has one younger brother and is currently in middle school. Gabe must stop school to tend his medical needs and hospitalization.
Please, if you are able to help donate anything it would mean so much to our family and could help save Gabe and help his bone cancer go away. My family and I are asking for any financial aid to help Nikki & Plex for their upcoming expenses for Gabe's medical needs, chemotherapy and medicines. 100% of the donations will go to the Uy family's treatment of Gabe's cancer. Thank you everyone for taking the time to read and share this fundraiser. These wonderful people need our help.
