Help Gabby lay her father, Alonso Zapata, to rest

2020 has brought on plenty of  uncertainty to people’s lives all over the world. In the midst of the unknown, we cling to what is important to us. We hold tight and treasure those that we love and who love us. We count our blessings and maintain gratitude for those we hold dear and call our family. And even then, circumstances make it increasingly difficult to keep our loved ones close.

When life throws punches, Gabby Zapata handles it with grace. She exhibits immense strength as she powers through her responsibilities of the day. She perseveres. She remains dedicated to the people in her life. She gives so much of herself for her family and her friends. She consistently supports her family with her love, dedication, resources and time.

This is why today, we ask that you please consider helping Gabby Zapata, the most caring, selfless and generous soul, in her time of need.

This year her father, Alonso Zapata, passed away of Covid-19. In the thick of grieving this loss, Gabby has been in charge of managing the odds and ends that are left after someone passes. There is one aspect left yet to be resolved- securing a plot to lay her father’s ashes to rest. With an unexpected loss comes unexpected costs.

We ask today that you consider helping Gabby with the costs of laying her father to rest. Her desire is to place him somewhere close where she can have peaceful visits to remember Alonso Zapata as the father she cherished.

“Dad and I used to go eat Colombian food wherever we were at the time (because he was Colombian, of course!). Whether it be in Mexico City, NY, SF, or Los Angeles. It was our way of bonding whenever either of us were in town.
We would text each other whenever there were earthquakes, any illness, advice, etc.
He loved to blast Selena in his car when he could pick me up from school when I was younger- I was so embarrassed, haha!

But I cherish those moments like any other. Even though he lived in the US for many years, he loved Mexico so much he lived there for so many years. For the people, the food, and the city.
He was compassionate and would always give a helping hand in any way he could- even from far away. One of the most memorable moments was when he helped my boyfriend’s mother this year with her hospital care. He worked with senior care as executive director for many years and was compassionate to all his viejitos [seniors] as if they were his own.

He wasn't a man of many words, but his actions showed the love he had for me. He was my number one fan, his “chiquita”, and would always keep up to date on my art and social media to cheer me on. He loved sending me funny videos, pictures of his dog and any funny chisme [gossip].

His last words to me were, "we'll be talking". He told me that if anything were to happen to him, I would know what to do. I honestly don't know what I'm doing, but he has given me signs in a way to help bring him peace. So in a sense, his last words still remain with me till this day.” -Gabby Zapata.

Let’s come together to help Gabby and her Dad have a place where they can continue talking and sharing precious moments with one another!

The funds raised will go directly to Gabby Zapata. They will be used to pay for a Niche for Alonso Zapata in one of the Forest Lawn cemeteries.

Thank you so much for you contributions, considerations, and for your willingness to help a friend in need!
