We are British Rock and we are wanting to help one of our band members Beccy.
At just 16 years old, Gabby (Beccy’s daughter), has already spent almost half her life fighting a rare autoimmune disease called Takayasu Arteritis. Diagnosed in 2019, Gabby has endured years of hospital appointments, countless scans and tests, monthly treatments and medications daily in the hope of keeping her disease stable. Takayasu Arteritis has caused significant narrowing (stenosis) of her aorta and its major branches, resulting in daily pain in her legs and, more recently, her left arm due to claudication.
While most teenagers are thinking about school, friends and making memories, Gabby's life revolves around managing chronic pain and living with a condition that has no cure and on top of that she struggles with ADHD which can not be managed with medications due to her condition which has made life more challenging.
Despite everything she faces, Gabby is full of life. She has the most beautiful smile, a kind heart, and an incredible strength that inspires everyone who knows her. Looking at her, you would never know the battles she fights every single day. She rarely complains and always tries to make the most of life, even when simple things that most teenagers take for granted, can leave her in significant pain. Earlier this year, Gabby wanted to become more independent by riding herself to school and catching up with friends. Unfortunately, because of her condition, riding a regular bike wasn't possible.
Wanting to give her that independence, Beccy bought her an e-bike with pedal assist. It changed her life. The e-bike allowed Gabby to get around with much less pain. It gave her freedom, confidence and independence. It meant she could be active within her limits, spend more time with her friends, and enjoy being a teenager without having to rely on someone else for every trip.
In May this year, while Gabby was at the shops, someone stole her e-bike. Despite the best efforts of the police, it was never recovered. It wasn't just a bike that was taken. It was Gabby's independence, her confidence, and one of the few things that made living with her condition just a little bit easier. As if that wasn't enough, Gabby is now preparing for another major hurdle. In August, Gabby will undergo vascular surgery in the hope of improving the blood flow to her legs and arm and hopefully reducing the pain she experiences every day. She will spend several days in ICU before moving to a hospital ward if all goes well. When she comes home, her recovery will be slow. Gabby will need at least 2 weeks of bed rest before slowly returning to everyday life. Her legs are expected to remain significantly swollen for six to nine months, and she will need to wear compression stockings for up to six months. While we are hopeful this surgery will improve her quality of life, it is not a cure and the procedure is temporary. Gabby will continue taking daily medications and travelling to hospital every month for ongoing treatments. During her recovery, her mum will need to take time away from work to care for her, with part of that leave being unpaid. Asking for help is never easy, but today we're reaching out in the hope of giving Gabby back some of the freedom she lost.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a genuine difference. If you're unable to donate, simply sharing Gabby's story with your family and friends would mean the world to us. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for taking the time to read Gabby's story, for your kindness, and for helping a brave young girl regain the independence that every teenager deserves. Your support means more than words can ever express. ❤️ Funds raised will help replace Gabby's stolen e-bike, assist with travel and parking costs for her surgery and follow-up appointments, and help ease the loss of income while Mum takes unpaid leave to care for her during recovery.
