Help Gabsy through his cancer lymphoma treatment
Gabriel is a 10 year old boy diagnosed with Autism (2014) ADHD(2016).With these diagnoses he is unable to function without full time support and has no awareness of danger.
Both conditions are life long. His speech therapist described him as “ young man with a complex medical and developmental needs whose diagnosis of Autism and ADHD impact on all areas of his learning, emotional regulation.”
In November 2018 Gabriel started struggling to breathe amongst other health problems and weWere admitted to Great Ormond street hospital intensive care ward. After several tests they gave us the devastating diagnosis of lymphoblastic lymphoma a rare type of childhood cancer. He was put on life support for 10days as the tumour blocked his airways and he couldn’t breathe on his own.
He has been having chemotherapy for the past 2years and the side effects has been devastating. The impact of having a child with additional needs has had been really hard on the family (mum and brother).
I his mother is a university graduate and my ambition was to become a social worker but due to Gabriel’s treatment I have had to put my career and future prospects on hold. Being a single mum with no support has been extremely challenging but Gabriel’s full recovery has been my number one motivation.
As a result of the chemotherapy treatment he receives Gabriel gets very weak, disregulated, emotional and very stressed and Needs constant reassurance. At the start of his chemotherapy treatments the side effects was so profound he lost the use of his limbs but he gained the use of them again after having physiotherapy.
The journey to get Gabriel to perfect health has been hard, emotional, traumatic and can be lonely. Despite all the challenges Gabriel has had to face in his young life he shows amazing strength, resilience and has been very brave.
Gabriel NEEDS a lot of therapies to enable him improve his speech, his independence, help him co ordinate his body and live a happy
life.
Gabriel will need weekly speech therapy, weekly Occupational therapy and psychologist appointment regularly. His Occupational therapist stated “ Gabriel displays body awareness issues that negatively impact on his ability to understand where his body is in space”.
After having Gabriel assessed by a private psychologist she states that with the right support he “ has the ability to make good progress”.
Gabriel is a part of a community and loves to go to the park, horse riding, swimming and loves going to church to sing and dance.
The money we are rising is to secure Gabriel’s future as he is going through a lot, and it is also to fund Gabriel’s several therapies that he needs to give him a better experience of life and to give Him a better future by giving him the potential to go to university and become a member of society and help others in whatever career path he chooses.
