Help G. Cecilia Cover expenses
Hi #CatholicTwitter fam. Most of you know my story at this point. But if you don’t…
I am a Catholic medical student and a consecrated Virgin. Which is why I hope it is not too cumbersome that I reserve my identity. I’m in academia and the community being small… I avoid being weeded out as a dare-to-be Catholic yet.
In mid to late April 2021, I fell ill with a longer than normal flare of my affliction with IBD. Things really went south as a severe infection brought me into a comatose state and near sepsis. Against all odds and through God’s mercy I emerged from the coma very much unaffected.
Still my IBD showed its ugly head, I’ve had episodes of hemorrhaging and anemia. Even having emerged from a coma I remain hospitalized for weeks on end as this autoimmune disease reeks havoc. Recently, it has attacked my heart with myocarditis and pericarditis both due to the systemic effects of the disease and the aggressive treatments I have tried and failed.
I have honestly lost count of how many surgeries I’ve had throughout this whole process—maybe 4-5? Whether it be from bleeding, strictures, intussusception, etc. Scar tissue is my biggest concern at this time.
With all of this in mind, and the fact that as a medical student I carry significant student debt
Which in part would be somewhat alleviated with my stipend from academia and through working on and off in a lab.
Unfortunately, I clearly no longer have access to those sources of sustenance. I’m not in school for the time being and even though the school holds my spot given my deeply extenuating circumstances and through the kindness and understanding of supportive faculty; no stipend and no other funds come my way.
Seeing as though I may be transferred to a higher institution to do a full investigation into my perplexing disease presentation and recovery will take who knows how long…
I am humbled to ask for help. I can’t do this alone anymore. God bless for your generosity and charity. God knows I struggle to ask.
