Help Fundraise for Jamie's New Legs
Donation protected
In April of this year our chef, Jamie, had to go in for emergency surgery. We all hoped it would be a standard and quick one, but we soon found it would be a life-threatening surgery. Below is a message from Jamie about everything that's happened.

"Normally, humility makes me slow to accept help, but I'm definitely facing hardships, ahead. Almost 4 weeks ago I went to the ER to find out why my knees were hurting so bad. I just couldn't take it. They drew fluids from my knee and tests proved it to be the same infection that I had last year, sepsis. If I hadn't gone in, I likely would have died. They checked me into the hospital for emergency surgery. The surgeon gave me the choice of total, double amputation from the knees down, or they would remove my knee joints and clean up in there, with a very risky and potentially fatal surgery. I knew I was strong and hardheaded, and too young to be an amputee, so I opted for the cleanup surgery. I came through with flying colors and on strong antibiotics for another 4 weeks in a nursing home in Albany. After that, if there are no signs of infection, they will give me new knee replacements. Couple months of therapy and I should be good as new, but they want to put me on antibiotics for life, to make sure it can't happen again.
My insurance will cover most of the medical costs, but I will be without 3 months of my income. My house is in need of repairs and I will need equipment when I go home, such as a wheelchair and hospital bed rental. And of course, normal bills like rent."
