Hello. My name is Katie Michaels and the adorable puppy is Zeke. I adopted Zeke from the Humane Society on Friday, August 29th. Zeke is 3 months old.

On Wednesday, September 3rd, while on a walk, I picked Zeke up to try to stop him from getting to another dog. Zeke wanted to get to the dog and he wiggled out of my arms. He fell about 3 feet and hit the ground. He immediately whimpered in pain and won't put any weight on his back leg. I took him in to get evaluated and x-rays. He broke his femur that required surgery. He had a pin placed to allow for his bone to heal properly.

The surgery was $3,500. In addition, he will need repeat x-rays every 10-14 days to ensure that the bone is healing properly. Finally, once the bone is healed, they will have to go back in to remove the pin in his leg. This will be another $700-1,000.

Unfortunately, this accident happened before I was able to get pet insurance as I was still comparing rates. I have insurance now, but since the accident happened before the start date, none of the care will be covered.

I hate asking for money but I don't know how to afford the cost of the ongoing care to treat him. I am a special education teacher, so I have a limited income.
