In August 2025, world leaders will meet in Geneva for the final round of negotiations on the UN Global Plastics Treaty (INC 5.2). This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape the world’s first legally binding agreement on plastic pollution.
✊ Young people need to be there. But most can’t afford to attend.
Who We Are
We represent the Children and Youth Major Group (CYMG) to UNEP, the official youth engagement mechanism of the UN Environment Programme, and the Youth Plastic Action Network (YPAN), a soon-to-be-launched youth-led platform working to ensure an ambitious and inclusive plastics treaty.
Even though youth are working at the highest levels of international policy, most are still unpaid and under-resourced. Many have already sacrificed personal savings, jobs, and opportunities to participate. No one should be excluded just because they can’t afford to be in the room.
The youth front of this treaty process has been powered by volunteers from the start. Many of the young people who’ve shaped the negotiations over the past three years have done so without pay. In many cases, they’ve even self-funded their participation just to make sure youth perspectives are represented.
As we approach this historic final session, many youth including those who’ve led consultations, spoken in plenary, built support for stronger treaty language, and organized global capacity-building simply can’t afford to attend without help.
We’re asking for your support to get them to Geneva.
