Help Urgent Surgery 16-yr old Son Varsity Football
Donation protected
Hi my name is Charlet. I am a mama to 7 children (6 boys and 1 girl). I’m raising funds for our third oldest son, Dylan to have a full reconstruction knee surgery with meniscus repair at Pailey Institute in Florida.
Dylan is turning 17 years old next month and entering his senior year of high school. He is a 4-year Varsity skilled player and Captain for Elk Grove High School Football team. On the last playoff game of last season (November 2023) Dylan was running the ball and took a hard direct hit, helmet to knee, which we later found out caused a full ACL rupture. Unknown extent of the injury at the time, Dylan wrapped his knee on the sidelines, went back out on the field and continued to play the game he loves through the pain.
Dylan had several Orthopedic surgeons examine his knee and the best option was the new FDA approved Bridge Enhanced ACL Repair (BEAR) surgery with only a handful of surgeons in the United States, Paley Institute was one of them. This BEAR surgery was the best option for Dylan because he started puberty late and the other options available through Kaiser required the grafting tendon to be screwed into the tibia and femur, closing the growth plates for the right leg. Kaiser's Endocrinologist advised against the surgery with Kaiser because the left leg would continue to grow and the right leg would not, causing a need for an additional limb lengthening surgery in the near future to even out his legs. We maxed out our credit cards to pay for the BEAR surgery with Paley Institute since it was not covered by Kaiser insurance.
On December 11, 2023, Dylan had the BEAR surgery and since then he has been making an incredible recovery, which was faster than the historical ACL surgical outcomes and recovery timelines. His physical therapist cleared him to run straight and jump without the requirement of wearing a brace. He was excited to start summer conditioning and get ready for his senior season.
On June 11, 2024, Dylan re-injured his right knee at practice. While running straight, he stepped weird and heard a loud pop, which made his right knee cave inward causing him to fall in severe pain. As I rushed him to the Emergency Room, he asked me to pray with him and we held hands praying for the entire drive. We were seen immediately since he re-injured a recent surgical area. However, the MRI findings just came back with devastating news... Dylan needs full reconstruction with meniscus repair. I sent Paley's surgeon an email at 9:00pm EST with the MRI findings and he replied in an hour. Paley's surgeon advised Dylan should not have been cleared to run without a brace so that unfortunate situation caused greater risk, instability, re-injury, and torn ligaments and based on the findings needs a full reconstruction and meniscus repair.
I am reaching out asking, pleading for help so Dylan can have the full reconstruction surgery at Paley Institute. All funds will be used for Dylan's surgery and recovery. Any and all donations are much appreciated. And if you cannot donate, we understand, and would appreciate positive thoughts and prayers for our son to make a full recovery so he can enjoy an active lifestyle and still go into law enforcement after college.
For clarification, Kaiser insurance does not cover surgeries outside of Kaiser so we need to raise funds quickly to get him to Paley Institute.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and prayers.
