Help fund Uncle Jhun's Memorial Service

Donation protected

Hi, my name is Katelyn Veverka, I am the niece of Magdaleno B. Tapaoan, Jr, 73 yrs.

I am creating this fund under the circumstances of

My Uncle's Condition:

Magdaleno, or as I call him, Uncle Jhun was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer on June 1st, 2021. Uncle was taken to Emergency Care where he was treated for symptoms of severe pain in his lower abdomen. An MRI revealed a large tumor hiding in his bladder. Doctors advised the following steps were to permit a biopsy to determine if the tumor was benign or malignant. The only available date was over a month later, on July 9th, 2021.

Following the procedure, Uncle's condition proved unstable. Uncle developed blood clots, fell into shock, and had to be irrigated to remove pieces of the tumor that were beginning to show in his catheter.

Results of the biopsy indicated the mass was malignant. Doctors advised against any further procedures due to the risks of further disrupting his stability and remaining health. Understanding the advancement of his condition, Uncle Jhun also understood chemotherapy would weaken him and prevent him from spending time with family if he had to reserve the rest of his energy for hospital trips.

Currently, Uncle is surrounded by family. He is able to hear and speak to us and reminisce about the memories shared over the years. Uncle Jhun has made the decision to remain in an at-home hospice where he is accepting smiling and familiar faces as he approaches his final chapter in life.

The Purpose:

This fund has been created to pay for a preferred service to honor Uncle Jhun's life. The funeral expenses through Forest Lawn's Memorial services are expected to be $12,510.00 which will cover the listed items below

  • Viewing at St. Barbara Catholic Church
  • Mass Service with floral arrangements (his favorite color is white!)
  • Visitation during service (including guests/family)
  • Transportation
  • Casket
  • Memorial Tablet with a single vase

*Disclosure: contributions will be allocated accordingly to any service that best suits the amount received. This funeral plan was chosen on behalf of Uncle's preferences, however, any constraints financially may result in a reduced service such as no viewing, or no burial and the alternative of cremation services (since each item has an individual cost within the funeral package)*

ABOUT ME

Uncle Jhun's Early Chapters:

Magdaleno B. Tapaoan was born in Claveria Cagayan, Phillippines on June 22nd, 1948. He first came to the United States in 1990 working for a Philippine company that stationed him in Louisiana as a CWI (Certified Welding Inspector). In 1992, Uncle Jhun married my Aunt, Marietta Macalalag Tapaoan whom he met in Manila, and had their daughter, Abilene Tapaoan on June 7th, 1994. He retired as a Senior-level Welding Inspector with Arrow Inspection & Testing, where his part and legacy will remain with some of these major projects across the nation: the Mark Twain Boat in Disneyland, Mission Bay Bridge in San Diego, and Amtrak's Texas Eagle Train. In retirement, he continued to devote his time by rejoining the workforce as a CWI, playing guitar, going to the movies, being the videographer for family events, hanging out with old friends and family, and playing basketball with his daughter, Abbey.
