The film
Not In My Back Yard is about a single, immigrant father, Pedro, as he tries to obtain a permit to construct a playground in the backyard for his son. Unfortunately, he must fight against a sea of disgruntled neighbors stuck in the past and a strict town council to obtain the correct permit.

Linus Brier, Writer/Director
Where I live, affordable housing is a big concern that gets a lot of lip service, but I've noticed that when it comes time to build affordable houses in their neighborhood, people often change their tune on the issue. I came up with Not In My Back Yard while I was filming local access television in my hometown of Groton, MA. I wanted to tell the story of a man trying to follow all the unfair rules he's forced to abide by and despite his best intentions, still being rejected.
Tory Stauffer, Producer
Hi! I'm Tory, I'm from Portland, Maine, and I'm one of the producers for Not In My Back Yard. This is now my third film I've produced at BU, and my fourth overall. At the core of this film, is a story that emphasizes the importance of holding to your convictions. We see a father trying to put his best foot forward in this new community he's joined. I think it would be easy for him to become bitter and jaded about it but he doesn't let it get to him. Instead, he takes the loss and moves on to the next challenge.
Luke Audie, Producer
Hi! I'm Luke from Connecticut, and I'm thrilled to be one of the producers on this film. With a background in both film and theatrical producing, along with marketing, I'm excited to bring a mix of creativity and organization to this project. This story feels close to my heart; as a kid, I found comfort in my own backyard playset during difficult times, and it taught me how much peace the simplest things can bring. I hope this film reminds viewers that sometimes, the simplest joys leave the deepest impact.
Catherine Glessner, Director of Photography
Hi! My name is Catherine and I am from Yarmouth, Maine. I am the Director of Photography for N.I.M.B.Y and am super excited to take on this role for a second time. In previous experiences, I have been DP for project 1 in Production II and am currently taking intermediate cinematography. This film is super important to me because it is extremely relevant to current social issues and I think it helps continue to open up the conversation.
James Thompson, Production Designer
My name is James Thompson, I am from New York City and I am the Production Designer on this project. I am excited to be working on this project, as I believe NIMBY takes an interesting look at the law and what it sets out to create, which is good, vs what it creates in reality. Due to human interference, it often becomes invasive and harmful. I believe this film takes an insightful look at the impacts of that interference.
