Help fund "The Weedwacker": A Short Film by Tye Rikman

Hello! My name is Tye Rikman and I am a student filmmaker in the SUNY Purchase College Film Conservatory. I am a junior and beginning production on my Junior Thesis Film, The Weedwacker.

There are many reasons why I care about this film, but the most important one is that the story is designed to critique two major aspects of social existence: our relationship with our environment and our relationship with the media. As someone who grew up watching movies like Star Wars, I find that the best way for me to explore topics such as these is through science fiction. Hence, The Weedwacker is a dystopian sci-fi story about Tobias, a young man brainwashed into joining a super-soldier training unit to fight an environmental rebellion. Throughout the story, Tobias slowly begins to realize the world being fed to him is a lie, and he begins to decipher the truth not only about the world, but about himself.

I am ecstatic to finally be making this film, as it has been in the works since last December. However, sci-fi doesn’t typically fit into low-budget filmmaking, which is why I’ll need the help of donors like you to fund this project.
