Hi, my name is Cybelle and I'm a young theatre director, who recently graduated from the Drama Department at UC Irvine. My cast and I are taking the world premiere of a new queer play, "Restoration" to the Hollywood Fringe Festival! "Restoration" is a 90-minute, four person play written by Nick Exum, who is also playing the lead. It is a complex and honest look at recovering from trauma while opening up to other people and pursuing art. The play will go up June 10, 11, 17, and 18, 2023 at the Asylum Theater at Thymele Arts. Tickets and more information are available HERE .
This play is entirely self-funded by a group of passionate artists who are determined to tell this story. This GoFundMe would cover the cost of the venue rental space, leaving us to cover the costs of rehearsal space rentals, transportation, props and set, and costume rentals. We appreciate every dollar and thank you so much for your contribution. This is the first full-length play that I've directed outside of school, and Nick's professional debut as a playwright. With your help, we will be able to tell this story!
Elliot: Nick Exum
Lucas: Frank Tirimacco
Jennifer: Stephanie T. Keefer
Dana: Sarajane Bradford
Stage Managed by Chelsea Garcia-Perez
Elliot used to be a painter, but now he only restores existing work. Estranged from his family, chronically single, and recovering from a traumatizing relationship, he decides he is safer living like the paintings he repairs- behind a thick layer of varnish, distant, untouchable.
But when Lucas, a charismatic, curious stranger, commissions him to restore his most challenging painting yet, Elliot finds himself struggling to open up in a new relationship and to attend his sister Dana’s wedding, who he hasn’t spoken to in years.
This intimate, small cast play explores the challenges of letting people in- to our thoughts, to our art, to our lives.
