The Motor City Cat Coalition needs YOUR help!
Funded completely out-of-pocket by my wife and I, the Motor City Cat Coalition was founded in early 2021 to help save stray and unwanted cats and kittens in the Metropolitan Detroit area.
Hotel Ziggy, my basement foster area, named in honor of our beloved senior cat, Ziggy, who passed away at the end of January due to heart failure and cancer, provides our rescues with a safe and comfortable place to decompress and live until a suitable forever home is found.

Ziggy was a very special cat and is a huge inspiration as to why we started our own cat rescue organization. Ziggy had a very difficult life until we adopted him two years ago when he was around 10 years old. He has had multiple owners and was returned to the shelter we adopted him from because of litter box issues. He continued to have litter box issues his entire time with us. Pets are oftentimes expected to perfectly live up to their human’s unrealistic expectations and deemed disposable if those expectations are not met.
Ziggy taught me how to love an imperfect animal and he rewarded my wife and I with two years of love and companionship and many nights of extreme warmth when he slept, snoring away, in our bed, on top of our legs. Ziggy’s impact on us continues to be felt in our home to this day and we will forever be grateful to him, passing on the lessons he taught us in his short time with us to the (hopefully) hundreds of cats that the Motor City Cat Coalition will save in the future.
The Motor City Cat Coalition currently needs funds to complete Hotel Ziggy and turn it into a fun, inviting space where potential adopters can come spend time with our rescued cats and connect with a potential adoptee. MCCC also needs funds for food, litter, treats, toys, cat trees, scratching posts, carriers, traps and everyday items such as garbage bags, paper towel and cleaning supplies. It would also be nice to fully furnish Hotel Ziggy with an area rug and small couch for guests.
The goal is to eventually turn the Motor City Cat Coalition into a brick-and-mortar cat rescue that services the Metropolitan Detroit area as not just a safe-haven for cats in-need but also provides services for low-income families to own a cat, as well as a mobile pet food pantry and help with trap, neuter, return for feral cats.
Since early December, the Motor City Cat Coalition has taken in ten cats, including a pregnant female. Two have since found their forever homes, while the rest, and some others before them, have taken up residence at Hotel Ziggy. That’s over ten cats who would still be outside struggling to survive through a brutal Midwestern winter that are safe, warm, well-fed and getting the medical attention they need.
I am so proud of the hard work we have done up to this point and, even if a penny is not raised, we will continue to make a positive impact on the cats of Metropolitan Detroit and grow the Motor City Cat Coalition. Helping save these cats is rewarding in ways I have never experienced before in my life. We will not be able to save them all but for the ones we do save, it will change their world.
Some of the cats the Motor City Cat Coalition has helped recently, from top to bottom: Herman, Felix, Gizmo, Truman, Skye, Kate, Charlie, Dorian, Cinder, Penny, Tigress, Finn, Olive, Momo, George, Winter, Ulysses, Gus and Calvin.

*The Motor City Cat Coalition is not, as of yet, a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization.

A very special thank you to Ralph, Bear and Prinnie, our original cat crew who started us on this mission.

And, last but least, to Binxie, Punky and Jasper, who have joined our cat crew along the way.
