Why We’re Raising Funds
Baseball is more than a game in Westbrook, it’s a classroom for life. The Westbrook Baseball Foundation preserves and celebrates our city’s rich baseball history while using the game to provide educational, social, and physical opportunities for our youth. Through baseball, young people learn essential life lessons, build character, and develop sportsmanship and community.
Our flagship effort is the Jimmy Burrill Memorial Baseball Scholarship, recognizing a Westbrook High School senior who has positively contributed to the baseball program and excelled in academics, demonstrated good sportsmanship, and shown community involvement. The Foundation was organized in 2009 to provide scholarships for WHS seniors, and we’ve kept that promise ever since. In some years, when two candidates’ qualifications are too close to choose just one, we award two scholarships.
What Your Gift Makes Possible
- Scholarships for WHS seniors who lead on the field, in the classroom, and in the community
- Application outreach & selection so we identify and support deserving student-athletes
- Celebration & recognition that keep Westbrook’s baseball traditions alive
Our Broader Community Work
Your support also strengthens the Foundation’s ongoing programs that inspire pride and connection across Westbrook:
- Sally-Alane Fox Community Service Award
- Legends Recognition Monument
- Game Day Support (announcing, concessions, scoreboard & music, and all required hardware)
- Community Events & Fundraising (Westbrook Together Days and annual auction)
These programs reflect our belief that baseball is a bridge, connecting generations, neighbors, and the values we share.
Accountability & Transparency
- Awards are reviewed by the Foundation’s scholarship committee with input from school and coach representatives.
- We will publish updates at 50%, 75%, and 100% of our goal, and a post-award summary listing recipients and total funds granted (respecting student privacy preferences).
