Hello! I am Donald Gialanella, a sculptor whose life and work have been dedicated to exploring the human form, memory, and abstraction through steel. Over the past three decades, I have forged a career that bridges classical training, contemporary experimentation, and a deep respect for the power of art to connect us across time and experience. From my early years at Cooper Union and apprenticeship with Louise Bourgeois, to creating monumental public works across the country, my journey as an artist has been one of persistence, reinvention, and discovery.
I am now seeking to create a full-length documentary about my life as an artist—not only to chronicle my personal story, but to offer a candid look into the creative process, the challenges of sustaining a career in the arts, and the enduring role of sculpture in public and private life. This film will weave together my history, influences, and philosophy with the physical presence of the works themselves, many of which live permanently in cities and communities across the United States.
Your support will make it possible to capture this story with the depth and integrity it deserves. The documentary will serve both as a record of my journey and as an inspiration for younger artists, students, and anyone drawn to the resilience of the creative spirit. By helping fund this project, you will be contributing to the preservation of a lifetime of work and ensuring that the story of art’s ability to anchor, transform, and endure is shared with a wider audience.
