Hi, my name is Nathan Smith. I am the Chief of the West River Fire Department, and the Chairperson of the 2026 Pictou County Firefit Combat Challenge organizing committee. I have been a firefighter for 33 years and have competed in the Firefighter Combat Challenge twice! This is an Internationally recognized event, that we are bringing to Pictou County, Nova Scotia, August 29 & 30, 2026.

This event comes with a large financial investment which is solely funded through sponsorship. To help bolster the financial needs, as committee chair, I am going to run 5km in full firefighter turnout gear, breathing air from a self contained breathing apparatus on June 21, 2026, during the Johnny Miles Running Event in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. I am looking for pledges for my run, to be forwarded to the FireFit Competition to help offset some of the cost. My goal is to raise $1000. If I raise more, great!!! If I raise less, it will all go to the same goal! If you can spare $5, $20, $50 or anything at all, your support would be greatly appreciated!
