STING, the Simultaneous Thermodynamic and Inflow Networking via radiosonde Groups, deploys low-cost, lightweight, low-impact radiosonde swarms for dense 3D sampling of supercell thermodynamics and kinematics. With 7-sonde/receiver networking and a duplex ground link, it puts a dense cluster of profiles around one storm at once, at reduced helium and cost, and every flight streams live to the website and app for real-time science, model validation, and public engagement.
This fundraiser will cover the costs of initial field experiments. These experiments, including sensor quality validation, boundary layer sampling, and more, are currently closed gates to the publication of our research paper and gaining approval for other researchers to trust the data. The completion of these experiments over the next month or two will open those gates.
This is funding the cost of the sondes, the infrastructure, and the deployment.
